(WORLD) Andrea Vascellari is based in Finland and contacted us about the recent meme debate. Andrea runs a great little vodcast series and basically asked us for a response to all the posts about MediaSnackers and specifically the charge that anyone of any age can be a media snacker:
Thanks again Andrea for providing us with an opportunity to respond.

Clubs For Young People Conference
[SUMMARY—Speaking x2.]
(GBR) Yesterday MediaSnackers was down in Marwell Hotel, Hamsphire (which has its very own zoo) to deliver two speaking sessions for the Clubs For Young People "Taking The Lead" conference.
We discussed the huge changes in the media landscape and contextualised why organisations who work with young people now need to consider social media operations and strategies.
Clubs for Young People held a conference in November designed to help chief execs and lead workers of voluntary youth organisations find their way through the Childrens Services jungle—so Marwell Zoo seemed an appropriate venue! The conference was designed to inspire and motivate delegates to return to their organisations equipped with new ideas and innovations. DK of Mediasnackers took the delegates through the virtual world of how young people use the internet and other technology to communicate and participate. The sessions were very well recieved—feedback comments included:
• really upbeat interesting presentation which helped with understanding what young people are experiencing
• great presentation, articulated the need and demand for yp organisations to move forward wery well
• excellent—left me wanting more!DK's energetic presentation style and broad knowledge base made for a really informative and inspiring session, he pitched the material at a very appropriate level for the delegates and gave an insight into how to keep up with the young people they are working with. He made the use of virtual communication feel achievable by the organisations present and I am sure many of them went back filled with ideas of how to move forward in an innovative way—thanks DK

E-skills Training Part Two
[SUMMARY—A video review.]
(GBR) At the beginning of the week we were delivering our bespoke training course to the funky crew at eskills—check out our little film review of the day:
Music Featured: Home Again by Attack!Attack!
The MediaSnackers training day was a completely unique and refreshing approach to learning which has inspired the whole team and boosted the creativity of the project, if only all training was like this.

Blogging Enterprise
[SUMMARY—Little global ripples.]
(GBR) MediaSnackers had an email this morning from one of the guys at Make Your Mark—watch the video from out training gig for them back in September here—letting us know about their blogging activities.
Last week was Enterprise week—Make Your Mark's biggest week in the year.
I was saying to folk here that we should blog it - as a way to give a human face to the thousands of events, as a way to share the energy etc.
I didn't necessarily expect it to take off—but it did. We had 103 posts in 6 days! Mostly from staffers and also some guest posts. A lot of buy-in, a lot of positive feedback.
We hope we played a small part in challenging/demonstrating/illutsrating the worth of blogging in our training—just fantastic to see it happen and I'm sure next year it will be a bigger part of the overal strategy.

MediaSnack-snack-snackers#22
[SUMMARY—Quotes which illustrate.]
(WORLD) MediaSnackers are being served more and more ways to snack on their chosen media than ever. It's hard to differentiate between companies and start-ups enabling snacking or the snacking trends driving media platform development, but here are a couple of quotes from the 'experts' to sum it all up for any 'MediaSnacker-virgins':
One of the things our grandchildren will find quaintest about us is that we distinguish the digital from the real, the virtual from the real. In the future, that will become literally impossible.
The man who coined the phrase 'cyberspace' talking about ubiquitous computing.
We are very confident it will change people's lives.
Beatbullying chief executive Emma-Jane Cross explaining the importance of a new video campaign on YouTube.
More than four in 10 teens, or 43 percent, who instant message use it for things they wouldn't say in person, according to an Associated Press-AOL poll released Thursday. Twenty-two percent use IMs to ask people out on dates or accept them, and 13 percent use them to break up.
What teens are really using IM for.
The line between TV and PC is being blurred. Today's consumers no longer care about the conventional definition of a gadget. They just want one that fits their lifestyle
Judy Pae of LG hitting the nail on the head.
The reason children quickly adapt to the latest digital devices is because they have no fear of learning and unlearning. But our policymakers are constrained by their orthodox approaches to problems, a side effect of their age and reluctance to adapt to changing realities. The solutions they propose are suitably staid.
Sounds like the opening lines of mediasnackers.com summed up here.

(GBR) Start blogging.
Simple as that.

New Media Landscapes Presentation
[SUMMARY—Off again.]
(GBR) Heading up to Wigan in the north west of the UK to deliver a second speaking gig this week. The conference is for teachers in the local area and is entitled ''The learner, the 21st century curriculum, the technology & you!'—a jointly organised day by Wigan & Leigh College and Wigan Council.
After researching leading presenters in the new media and i-generation arena I booked DK from mediasnackers to come and speak to an audience of over 100 teaching staff to illustrate the changing way our learners interact and learn. To say that DK blow the audience away would not be an underestimation. He instantly connected with the audience and captivated and engaged them for the period of his presentation. His style was relaxed yet incredibly knowledgeable and professional. After giving DK an initial brief about the day, his presentation delivered a powerful message that had a distinct WOW factor specifically meeting the brief and audiences needs. Mediasnackers have set the bar high for others to follow. I look forward to working with DK and mediasnackers again and hopefully very soon.
Ian Green, Product Development Manager, Wigan & Leigh College

[SUMMARY—Quotes which illustrate.]
(WORLD) MediaSnackers are being served more and more ways to snack on their chosen media than ever. It's hard to differentiate between companies and start-ups enabling snacking or the snacking trends driving media platform development, but here are a couple of quotes from the 'experts' to sum it all up for any 'MediaSnacker-virgins':
The BBC and Channel 4 will initially use the Bebo network to promote their shows using short clips. Because it allows them to embed their own "media players" within the website, they are also likely to show full-length programmes in future.
Bebo allowing a mashup of old and new media in short-video form.
The connected consumer. There are four major driving forces: Digitization, Convergence, Media Snacking and Social Networking.
Duncan Waddle, VP of WDW PR speaking at the PRSA conference.
Short-form online video is a new genre of entertainment well-suited to today's pace of life, enabling fans to enjoy a 'media snack' whenever and wherever they like. The 'Director's Cut' channel features some of the best original content in this new genre, short videos created and nominated by members of the vibrant Metacafe community.

APYCO Conference
[SUMMARY—Speaking gig.]
(GBR) Currently at the fabolous Horewood House attending the Association for Principal Youth and Community Officers (APYCO) national conference. Mediasnackers has been invited as the penultimate speaker to help wrap up the conference with the juicy title of 'What Next?' to tackle.
Going to be fun!
I'm struggling to find the words which will adequately thank you for an extremely engaging presentation covering things we should know a lot about—but we evidently don't.
Your style was refreshing and memorable, and the effort you've made to fully reference your sources and material will be very helpful for members keen to look again at the points you made—and also for those not at Conference.

London G&T Youth Training: Part Two
[SUMMARY—Another short film review.]
Music featured: She Has Moved On by The Stubbs.
LG&T worked with MediaSnackers to produce a Technology Day for gifted and talented KS3 students from across London. Attended by 25 students and their teacher the day was hugely successful. The feedback from both the students and their teachers was, without exception, positive and particular complimented DK and Barney for their motivating and challenging facilitation. The students appreciated the opportunity to collaborate with each other to produce work using a variety of mediums. MediaSnackers fostered a fun, creative and safe environment in which the students explored the educational benefit of many socially used e-tools. Working with MediaSnackers was easy: they are organised, dedicated and very talented.

Digital Media Literacy Summit: Part Two
[SUMMARY—Short film review of our training and event support.]
Music featured: Save me by Showing Off To Thieves.
Check out all the young digital journalists interviews here.
The young journalists trained by mediasnackers for the Digital Media Literacy Summit 2007 held at Channel 4 on November 8th, organised and funded by the Media Literacy Task Force added notably to the success of this event.
Bringing a slice of 'real-life media literacy' to the event, the young journalists, from two inner City London schools and aged between 14 and 16, recorded interviews with delegates, speakers and organisers that enlivened the event and enriched the legacy of the day.
This aspect of the day was truly refreshing and highly relevant to the context of the Summit. It ensured that policy-makers and media professionals encountered young people practising media literacy skills both creative and critical as they learned 'on the job' how to conduct interviews and record and film them in real time.
It is a tribute to the quality of training provided by mediasnackers that the results were professional and challenging to a considerable degree given the scale of their task and the number of seasoned professionals present at the event to be interviewed.

[SUMMARY—BT awards for young people.]
(GBR) In partnership with the UK Youth Parliament, our friends at BT have announced and launched this years Seen and Heard—this year the report is accompanied by a CD which featured stories from the winners (order a report here or download the pdf here.
The purpose of Seen and Heard has always been to recognise and reward the achievements of those young people who have made a real difference to their own lives and the lives of others around them. This year, as last, we also recognise adults who have listened to and acted upon the concerns of young people.
Thay have a great interactive map so you can drill down into the regions and find stories in your locality. Would have been great to have the audio embedded in the site as well but maybe next year ;-)

Music4U
[SUMMARY—We're getting around.]
(GBR) MediaSnackers is up north and with Music4U, the Humber Region's Youth Music Action Zone, who run a wide range of music activities across the region.
We're here speaking at their AGM plus providing a little consulting session on their future new media and technology strategy.
MediaSnackers really got our team thinking about the future and how we start to use the technologies available. It was great to have someone who has the overview of what is available and with the knowledge about how young people communicate. We are now using some of the technologies demonstrated and are starting to connect to young people. We highly recommend MediaSnackers consulting, particular enlightening to anyone over the age of 18!
