[SUMMARY—More youth professionals training.]
(UK) The MediaSnackers team are off to Hertfordshire this week to deliver our youth professionals training to the officers of UK-leading learning disability charity, Mencap.
Tagging along will be our newest recruit (formal introducations will follow) and we're looking forward to the experience of empowering and inspiring these professionals to embrace new media and technology.

MediaSnackers Conference
[SUMMARY—A teaser.]
(UK/WORLD) The MediaSnackers conference is coming…
Like us, there are a lot of people out there exploring the impact of young people on shaping the media: programme/film makers, youth workers, online-platform creators, teachers, charities, voluntary sector organisations—to name but a few.
And like us, there are also a lot of people exploring the impact of media on shaping young people: academics, politicians, psychologists, marketers, brand planners—to name a few more.
What we're going to do is bring those (all too often) separate discussions under one roof. In one place. To connect. Promote learning. Enable understanding. Offer experiences. Inspiring sessions. Over two days with a focus on fun and enrichment.
The MediaSnackers conference is coming… (October 2007—site launch very soon)

We have our favourites but here's your chance to highlight yours.
MediaSnackers has been asked to be a external judge on this project—totally honoured.

Think Before You Post
[SUMMARY—Another illustration of what the education curriculum needs to be adopting.]

Kidnectivity
[SUMMARY—It's a long one but oh so worth it.]
(WORLD) A phenomena to some, a 'so what' to others. Im writing this now whilst sat in a starbucks, on a wireless connection, using a laptop. I'm mid thirties and across from me is a young guy (18) with his laptop too. We acknowledged each other on arrival, but that's it. He's playing games and chatting to 'friends', and I'm tucking in to a muffin whilst I qwert.
My head has been spinning for some time now about the younger generation and their adoption of being connected 24/7, with people all over the world. I also have been thinking a fair bit about our social interaction and whether high speed public net access is going to increase the number of people we speak to or lessen it over all.

YouTube Emotion
[SUMMARY—A way of communicating grief.]
(WORLD) YouTube obsess-ers have now become a way of life for the youth of 2007. Just the other week my cousin had told me her mum had banned her from using the website because she spent more time watching anime programmes on it, than doing her homework. Is it getting to a point where we've unglued our eyes from our TV's and permanently fixed them back onto the computer screen? When I was first starting out at MediaSnackers, I wrote a piece about the end of television and this actually sounds like it could be becoming a tangible reality.

Audience Yorkshire Training
[SUMMARY—Short film review of a corporate training day for Audience Yorkshire.]
MediaSnackers provided training for a group of arts marketing professionals. Within that group, people had different levels of knowledge of new technologies, but MediaSnackers tailored his training accordingly so that everyone in the group got the maximum benefit from the session. We received great feedback from the participants who all really benefited from MediaSnackers's relaxed but very informed approach.

Vodcast Confusion
[SUMMARY—Strange things have been happening.]
As you know, here at MediaSnackers we produce our own monthly vodcasts to give you a glimpse into our world, projects and to also feature other young peoples media creations.
For some reason, there has been a few problems with the video hosting site we've been using and for those of you subscribing through RSS (thanks to many of you who contacted us about this issue).
Hopefully the gremlins have been chased out of the system and you can watch the two-part special of our adventures in Africa by clicking opposite.
You can also subscribe directly to these vodcasts FREE through our one-click subscription iTunes icon here (current subscribers please double-check you have the right feed).
Not using iTunes, download it for free here—just click it to sign-up, simply as that. Not using iTunes? Then just copy / paste this feed and drop it into your vodcast aggregating software.
If you have any short video content (under two-mins) relating to youth media projects, are involved in any aspects of youth media or are a young person producing digital content (audio/visual) and want to discuss submitting pieces for consideration, please get in touch.

Teens Dig Digi-Tunes
[SUMMARY—Young people can't get enough of iTunes.]
(USA/CAN) Released by Piper Jaffrey the 'Taking Stock with Teens' report (focussed on the American and Canadian market) throws out some eyebrow-raising stats:
• over 80% who own an MP3 player own an iPod;
• 90% who use online music services use iTunes (how happy does that make Steve Jobs); and
• 44% of the total teen budget was spent on fashion.
There's also a short video about the report you can watch—a guy in a suit looking like he's giving evidence in a court case, but he know his stuff.

Middle East Youth
[SUMMARY—Exploring the rise of terrorism in Morrocco.]
(MOR) As the world reels from the Virginia Tech shootings this week (as it unfolds on the net as well as in the mainstream media), we've also been given a new insight into the often under-reported events out in the Middle East.
MediaSnackers came across this podcast from the guys at mefaith.com, which asks a few Moroccon university students how they feel regarding the recent wave of suicide attacks in Casablanca.
It's honest, direct, and leaves you with a sense of hope for those dealing with unimaginable conditions as part of their day-to-day lives.

Safeguarding Children Online
[SUMMARY—Nice e-safety guide for newbies.]
(GBR/WORLD) An 'e-saftey' checklist has been produced by Becta for local authorities and children boards (although it can be used by any organisation working with young people and children).
The free downloadable pdf (available here) is invaluable for those departments taking their first tentative steps towards integrating their online services with children and young people. Although, maybe another publication on what pro-social roles tachnology and online activities can play could be the next title released?
Something to highlight at the Children Online conference MediaSnackers will be speaking at next week.
