Web 3.0
[SUMMARY—The next step.]
(WORLD) If you're still trying to get your head around web 2.0 then this is really giong to confuse you—web 3.0 is already being discussed and outlined.
The graphic above is taken from Gary Hayes Personalize Media weblog (reproduced with kind permission). It illustrates, for us visual thinkers, the transition from the one dimensional web ten years ago, through to the two-way internet most are experiencing today and also marks the launch of the web going 3D.
…the current 2D web, mostly linear to linear linking, is about to be enhanced by virtual environments in which we meet as avatars, interact as 3D moving objects that takes sharing, collaboration and communication to the next, predictable level.
I've alreay outlined my throughts on the future trends for young people and their media consumption and creation habits, but this is something I missed out—this integration and increased development of 'virtual' platforms and technology in education, work and day-to-day lives.
Gary also raises a pertinent point regarding 'interoperability'—how are young peoples digital personas and profiles across many sites and platforms going to integrate together?
It's an exciting time to be involved in media folks and it seems like it's going to be one hell of a ride over the coming years.
